Join other like-minded volunteers to help protect and restore Brisbane’s unique biodiversity through our Habitat Brisbane program. Whatever your skill level and motivation, joining your local Habitat Brisbane group is a great way to connect to nature and be active and healthy, all while meeting new people, developing new skills and making a difference to your local environment. With 160 groups across the city there’s bound to be one near you! Habitat Brisbane volunteers undertake a variety of activities including: managing environmental weeds revegetating with local native plants creating habitat for native wildlife citizen science projects.

Native beekeeping 101 with Ian Driver
Australia has around 2,000 native bee species, all playing their critical part in our uniquely Australian environment and ecosystems. With the ongoing loss of habitat, and other threats to our wildlife, we all have a role to play in protecting our precious bees. Guided by native bee expert Ian Driver you will learn about some of our most popular and beautiful native bees, and how to attract them into your garden with plants and insect hotels. You will also see inside a native stingless bee hive and get to taste their amazing honey. This workshop will cover both our native solitary bees and our stingless bees, and options for keeping them in gardens or even on decks and verandas. Youth offer: This workshop is suitable for teenagers, accompanied by mum, dad or another adult guardian, who has also paid to attend the workshop. About the facilitator: Ian Driver is a Sunshine Coast based Australian native beekeeper and educator, and owner/operator of A Green Soul Native Bees. Ian started his bee journey a number of years ago whilst turning his family life green, keen to make less of an impact on the planet and eat more home-grown fresh food. But to grow food you need bees to pollinate! And so a native bee hive was bought for the garden and the obsession started! Through 'A Green Soul Native Bees', Ian provides native bee products and services to customers throughout Southeast Queensland. He also manages a number of hives in kindergartens and schools where he runs education sessions for the students. Education is a big passion and Ian runs native beekeeping workshops across the region for the Australian Native Bee Association, community and council organisations, and the corporate sector. Ian is a Past President of the Australian Native Bee Association which advocates for the conservation of Australian native bees and for the sustainable development and growth of the native bee industry. He is currently on the executive as the Branch Liaison Officer. Artist in Residence: Gerwyn Davies
Leading contemporary artist Gerwyn Davies presents a series of striking photographic portraits developed in collaboration with trans and gender-diverse young people from Open Doors Youth Service. Deep water running
This is an aquatic workout that uses all major muscle groups. Participants wear a buoyancy belt so there's no need to worry about being in deep water however you do require basic swimming skills. Classes will be held in the outdoor 50m pool. You must bring your own buoyancy belt for this class.
Passport to the Universe
Get your passport for a thrilling journey through the Solar System, out of the Milky Way Galaxy and to the edge of the observable universe, returning home via a black hole. Narrated by Tom Hanks. Session concludes with a virtual tour of the Brisbane night sky. Passport to the Universe was developed by the American Museum of Natural History, New York in collaboration with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Major support for new version provided by the California Academy of Sciences, San Francisco.
Workshop - Fundamental Structure of the Human Head: The Key to Expressive Likeness with Dr Kay Kane
RQAS is offering an incremental 5-week workshop suitable for both beginners and experienced artists, led by acclaimed artist and educator Dr. Kay Kane, who brings over 50 years of practice and 45 years of visual art teaching experience. The workshop focuses on the fundamentals of drawing, moving beyond photographic realism to explore the essential elements of the craft. Participants will learn to observe and interpret size, scale, shape, tone, and spatial relationships - key skills for expressing any formal idea. Through guided practice, participants will develop the ability to draw accurately and with clarity by selecting, organizing, and simplifying forms. The workshop also explores the connection between structure and expressive interpretation, with a special focus on capturing the human visage. Each class is limited to 10 participants, so early bookings are recommended to secure a place. All materials will be provided by the tutor, including graphite, 2B/4B/6B pencils, a plastic ruler, eraser, heavy cartridge paper, and mixed media card.
