Gathering: Blak : Story : Song
Gathering presents Blak : Story : Song. Blak : Story : Song is a concert series that promotes and engages intergenerational First Nations singer songwriters and our international indigenous allies. Co-curated by Deline Briscoe (Yalanji), a collective of artists present their songs in a stripped back, intimate setting that allows space for truth telling, deeper audience connection and inspired musical collaborations. Take a 1 hour journey with these songwriters, while they share their songwriting talent in all its raw honesty. Catch their set from 12noon to 1pm at the Queen Street Mall main stage. This Gathering event is produced by Cre8tive Nations.

Gathering: Zhane
Gathering presents Zhane. Zhane Osborne James is a proud Saibai Island woman of the Torres Strait Islands in Far North Queensland. She relocated to the mainland in Cairns and grew up around family, staying connected to the land, sea and waterways. She enjoys practicing Traditional customs and passing these on to future generations through the techniques of weaving, Traditional song and dance and having informative conversations around life as a Torres Strait Islander and the cultural practices that are involved. Take part in this free interactive weaving session by Zhane on Wednesday 1 July from 12 noon to 1pm at the Queen Street Mall stage. This Gathering event is produced by Cre8tive Nations.

School holiday activity - NAIDOC Week
NAIDOC week celebrates the history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Join Sue and Duane at a grounded table of art materials and leaves. Paint a leaf and add it to a crown or wristband. Duane will quietly entertain with his didge sounds and stories of gum trees and their animals. You can also join the Education Team to taste test some bush food flavours. Learn the ins and outs of making bracelets from native fibres and sharpen your coordination skills with some traditional Indigenous games that have been played in Australia for many thousands of years. Bring a picnic blanket and lunch to enjoy on our grassy lawn. Location: Meet at the Auditorium lawn. Note: Children under 16 are to be accompanied by an adult. For more information, send an email.

Gathering: Joe Geia Band
Gathering presents Joe Geia Band. Geia is a renowned singer/songwriter, guitarist, didgeridoo player and influential figure in the development of contemporary Indigenous music. He writes music of bravery and beauty, telling of Aboriginal life in Australia, of the quest for justice and belonging, of history, family and love. “I want to promote change and understanding, melodically and harmoniously,” he says, “while still sharing the little known aspects of Aboriginal history”. As the writer of renowned songs such as Yil Lull and Uncle Willie he remains an active recording and performing artist sharing his Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture through music. Celebrating Country and Culture through the bold designs of Magpie Goose. Museum of Brisbane is excited to collaborate with Magpie Goose, a proudly Aboriginal owned and led fashion and social enterprise, to celebrate extraordinary First Nations cultural stories and designs. This exclusive to Brisbane exhibition, developed in close collaboration with Magpie Goose owners Amanda Hayman (Wakka Wakka and Kalkadoon) and Troy Casey (Kamilaroi), offers a deep dive into the work of some of the region’s most talented First Nations artists and designers. Using clothing as a canvas for storytelling, this exciting collaboration will connect audiences with the rich and diverse cultural expressions of First Nations communities in Queensland and beyond.
