Little Artist’s Eye Spy

Aqua yoga
This is a low impact form of exercise that supports the body while still providing function and movement. Many yoga poses that you do in a class can be adapted for the pool, sometimes using the pool walls as if it were the studio floor.
RQAS Queensland Figurative Exhibition
Celebrate the talent and creativity of Queensland artists at the RQAS Queensland Figurative Exhibition, a showcase dedicated to figurative artworks in all their dynamic and expressive forms. The Queensland Figurative is a non‑acquisitive art competition that highlights the enduring significance of the human figure in visual art. These works will be on display for an entire month, offering visitors plenty of time to explore a diverse collection that interprets, challenges and celebrates the human form. Warrajamba
Follow the mermaid in the bay. Dive into story, culture and hands-on creativity with our latest Artist in Residence, Quandamooka artist Delvene Cockatoo-Collins. Journey alongside Delvene to the shores of Minjerribah and discover the ancestral story of Warrajamba, the mermaid, a living cultural legacy that Delvene continues to explore as she searches for its lost ending. Get hands-on and create your own mermaid or dugong using artist-designed stamps, connecting with the stories of Warrajamba and Yungong, the dugong. Discover Delvene’s powerful sculptural work made from materials gathered from Country - yungair/yungaire (freshwater reed), talwalpin (beach hibiscus cotton tree), and quampie shell. Come and be immersed in a space that celebrates care for land, sea and story. MoB’s Artist in Residence program is supported by Tim Fairfax AC. Gumtree Kids Messy Play at Calamvale District Park - Vehicles and transport theme
Join us for a messy, fun and creative themed messy play experience! At Gumtree Kids, little hands are encouraged to explore, create and play freely through thoughtfully designed sensory stations and open-ended play. Each session is themed, hands-on and full of textures, colours and imagination - all set up for children to enjoy at their own pace. Perfect for curious babies, toddlers and preschoolers, our sessions are suitable for ages 6 months to 6 years, with a relaxed, welcoming environment for families to connect, play and make memories together. Come along, get messy, and let the creativity flow.
Bush Babies
Bring your little ones (aged 0–1) to Karawatha Forest and let them discover the magic of free play in nature. This relaxed, outdoor session introduces babies to the wonders of the bush while offering families a safe, welcoming space to connect with each other and their local reserve. Requirements: All babies must be accompanied and directly supervised by an adult. Please wear a wide-brimmed hat, sun-smart clothing, sunscreen, fully enclosed walking shoes, and insect repellent. Bring drinking water and a snack or picnic lunch, as no food outlets are available on site. Note: Event may be cancelled on the day due to weather or environmental conditions.

From the Ground Up: Propagating plants
This month’s workshop is about propagating plants through seed, cuttings and division. You will receive information about how to make your own propagation soil mix, care for your developing plants, save money and learn about the seasonal cycle of plant life. The practical activity involves making paper pots and planting seeds, cuttings and divisions to take home and care for. From the Ground Up is a five part workshop series on how to garden and grow plants sustainably. The methods and practices in the workshops are designed to restore and nurture the environment and to assist you in growing your garden harmoniously with nature. Each workshop is independent of the others and you do not need to attend them all. For more information, send an email. Requirements: Please wear a hat and enclosed shoes; and bring a keep cup or water bottle. This workshop is available only to participants 16 years of age or over. Clock Tower Tour

For many years, City Hall’s Clock Tower elevated the building to Brisbane’s tallest, offering visitors a magnificent 360 degree view of the city around them. The Clock Tower Tour includes a ride in one of Brisbane’s oldest working cage lifts, a look behind Australia’s largest analogue clock faces and time to explore the observation platform that shares a unique perspective of your city. This allows you to workout at a higher intensity, with less impact on the body and with the added benefit of resistance that the water provides. Suitable for all fitness levels. Bookings essential. This program is designed for kids aged 2-7 and serves as the home of Non-Contact Rugby League for children. At Billy Buddies, they celebrate all sports not just Rugby League! Their programs focus on fun, helping kids build social skills while learning the fundamentals of Rugby League and ball sports in general.
Children’s storytime in the park - Dorrington Park, Ashgrove
Experience the magic of storytime with your child during a First 5 Forever storytime session in the park at the Pop-up Library. This interactive session includes stories and songs for young children. Ideal for children from birth to five years and their parents or carers. First 5 Forever is an initiative of the Queensland Government, coordinated by State Library of Queensland and delivered in partnership with local government.

Nature journaling for adults
Join this regular nature journaling get-together at Downfall Creek Bushland Centre on the last Friday afternoon of each month (except public holidays). These informal sessions are a great opportunity to take some time out, relax, and connect creatively with nature. Requirements: Bring your own basic sketch/art pad. All other materials supplied. Wear sun-safe clothing and secure, fully enclosed walking shoes. Bring water and a snack if required as there are no food outlets on site. Bring a lightweight outdoor chair if you'd like to use one. Arrive 5 minutes early to check-in. Note: This activity will go ahead in light rain and can be delivered indoors if required. Encounters in the Milky Way
Discover the chance encounters that have shaped our place in the universe. Narrated by Pedro Pascal, Encounters in the Milky Way is a time-traveling journey about the cosmic movements that shape our galactic neighborhood. Session concludes with a virtual tour of the Brisbane night sky. Encounters in the Milky Way was developed by the American Museum of Natural History (amnh.org) with the major support and partnership of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

Queensland nurses' stories from World War II
‘Where there are men fighting, there are always nurses.’ (Sister Florence Syer, Australian Army Nursing Service World War II) Join us for a free 30 minute talk highlighting some of the remarkable Queensland nurses who enlisted in the Australian Army Nursing Service during World War II. Nurses have been part of the Australian Armed Forces since the formation of the Australian Army Nursing Service (AANS) in July 1903. Every year the Centaur Memorial Fund for Nurses holds the Nurses Memorial Candlelight Vigil on the eve of Anzac Day at the Nurses’ Memorial, Anzac Square, Brisbane. This Vigil commemorates the service of nurses over the more than 125 years in which Australia has been involved in conflicts. This year before the vigil we will be presenting a half hour talk at the Anzac Square Memorial Galleries highlighting the service of the 5,000 Australian nurses who enlisted during World War II. These women served in a variety of locations, including the Middle East, the Mediterranean, Asia and the Pacific. Join us at the Memorial Galleries as we explore: the experiences of the nurses who headed to the Middle East in1940 the fate of those who shipped out to Malaysia with our troops in 1941 tragedies where nurses lost their lives through enemy action and life for those who spent over 3 years in Japanese POW camps in both Indonesia and Japan. After the talk, visitors can stay to explore the Memorial Galleries, embarking on an interactive journey from the First World War to today, before taking time to reflect on the remarkable stories of bravery and sacrifice in the tranquil parklands. Anzac Square Memorial Galleries are located at 285 Ann Street. The talk will be held in the Post World War II Gallery (door located off the tunnel below the Shrine of Remembrance). The talk will run from 5-5.30 pm and conclude half an hour before the vigil’s scheduled start at 6pm.
