Step inside an exciting new residency project that invites you to experience art in unexpected ways. Artist in Residence Renee Kire takes over Museum of Brisbane’s entryway, transforming these spaces with a vibrant and dynamic mix of striking vinyl graphics and sculptural timber elements. These features create an immersive pathway that stretches across walls and ceilings, guiding you into the heart of the Museum. Drawing inspiration from Minimalism while reinterpreting the movement through a contemporary feminist lens, Kire brings fresh attention to the often-overlooked contributions of women in the field. Bright, colourful and welcoming for all visitors, the artwork is both joyful and thought-provoking. Responding directly to the architecture of the Museum, City Hall and the Brisbane cityscape, Kire’s design reveals unexpected connections between the built environment and abstract form. Repetition, rhythm and thoughtful details invite you to slow down, look closely and discover new perspectives. MoB’s Artist in Residence program is supported by Tim Fairfax AC. Follow the mermaid in the bay. Dive into story, culture and hands-on creativity with our latest Artist in Residence, Quandamooka artist Delvene Cockatoo-Collins. Journey alongside Delvene to the shores of Minjerribah and discover the ancestral story of Warrajamba, the mermaid, a living cultural legacy that Delvene continues to explore as she searches for its lost ending. Get hands-on and create your own mermaid or dugong using artist-designed stamps, connecting with the stories of Warrajamba and Yungong, the dugong. Discover Delvene’s powerful sculptural work made from materials gathered from Country - yungair/yungaire (freshwater reed), talwalpin (beach hibiscus cotton tree), and quampie shell. Come and be immersed in a space that celebrates care for land, sea and story. MoB’s Artist in Residence program is supported by Tim Fairfax AC. Celebrating Country and Culture through the bold designs of Magpie Goose. Museum of Brisbane is excited to collaborate with Magpie Goose, a proudly Aboriginal owned and led fashion and social enterprise, to celebrate extraordinary First Nations cultural stories and designs. This exclusive to Brisbane exhibition, developed in close collaboration with Magpie Goose owners Amanda Hayman (Wakka Wakka and Kalkadoon) and Troy Casey (Kamilaroi), offers a deep dive into the work of some of the region’s most talented First Nations artists and designers. Using clothing as a canvas for storytelling, this exciting collaboration will connect audiences with the rich and diverse cultural expressions of First Nations communities in Queensland and beyond. Brisbane Anzac Day Parade

Brisbane's community has proudly organised a parade to recognise the sacrifice of military service in Australia. This year marks the 110th Anniversary of the first Parade, held in Australia on 25th April 1916. Veterans are invited to participate in the march and community members are welcome to volunteer or attend in support of those marching. Arrive early to collect a free program and Australian flag waver, available from 9-9:30am and distributed by Australia Post volunteers. Convict Brisbane Walking Tour

Explore Brisbane’s colonial history on this guided tour through the city’s convict past. Beginning at the historic Windmill on Wickham Terrace and winding down to the river at Queens Wharf, the tour traces Brisbane’s transformation between 1823 and 1842 - from a remote penal outpost to an emerging free town. Hear stories of convicts and commandants, revealing how punishment, labour and authority shaped daily life. Along the way, our guides bring the settlement into focus, illuminating the social fabric and living conditions, as well as the central role of the Brisbane River in sustaining the colony. Woven throughout the tour are First Peoples’ responses to British settlement, their enduring connection to Country, and the Frontier wars that directly followed this era. Together, these intersecting stories offer a deeper understanding of how Brisbane grew from its earliest foundations into a regional centre. Tour highlights include: The Windmill, The Brisbane Crest, The Petrie Tableau, Convict-built structures and surviving remnants, Miller Park and the Commissariat Stores, Queens Wharf and, the Brisbane River. This 90‑minute, 1.75km tour is designed to suit most fitness levels, however, please note it includes walking downhill along city streets and across uneven surfaces. Brisbane Excelsior conducted by Howard Taylor presents a special Anzac Day concert in the beautiful acoustic setting of St Augustine’s Church. This moving program honours courage, sacrifice and hope through powerful brass band favourites including the triumphant Dambusters March, the deeply reflective Nimrod, the adventurous themes from The Great Escape and the unmistakable swing-era sounds of Glenn Miller. Following a sold-out run at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, appearances on Channel 4’s A Comedy Thing and as heard on his Guide To Parenting podcast with Vittorio Angelone, Mike Rice is set to win the hearts of audiences across Australia with a distinctive comedic voice that’s equal parts unfiltered, loose and dangerously charming. Bands in Parks: A Swinging Victory - The Big Bands of WWII

Bands in Parks performs at Brisbane Botanic Gardens. Victory to the people! The War is over, and the spirit of Jazz remains triumphant. The South East Queensland Big Band presents a Swinging Victory, a tribute to the Big Bands and radio legends of the World War 2 era. You’ll hear works of the jazz greats of the 1930s and 40s, who took their instruments and music to the front with them to boost the morale of troops and loved ones back home. This was the era of the Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington Big Bands, Ella Fitzgerald and Nat King Cole. This is a day for young and old, so take yourself back in time and swing into victory with us.

Step inside an exciting new residency project that invites you to experience art in unexpected ways. Artist in Residence Renee Kire takes over Museum of Brisbane’s entryway, transforming these spaces with a vibrant and dynamic mix of striking vinyl graphics and sculptural timber elements. These features create an immersive pathway that stretches across walls and ceilings, guiding you into the heart of the Museum. Drawing inspiration from Minimalism while reinterpreting the movement through a contemporary feminist lens, Kire brings fresh attention to the often-overlooked contributions of women in the field. Bright, colourful and welcoming for all visitors, the artwork is both joyful and thought-provoking. Responding directly to the architecture of the Museum, City Hall and the Brisbane cityscape, Kire’s design reveals unexpected connections between the built environment and abstract form.
