The Wetlands by Paper Hands

Enjoy the display 'The Wetlands', by local artist Paper Hands, at Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre as part of the Community Art Wall. Paper Hands (Holly Nielson) is a Brisbane-based illustrator. She finds that "… art is a way for me to communicate, reflect and dance with this weird and wonderful life. My artwork is often exploring the power of regeneration, through the connection of nature and the individual." 'The Wetlands' was inspired by the natural beauty of the Boondall Wetlands, a unique and significant nature reserve which encapsulates more than 1000 hectares of tidal flats, mangroves, saltmarsh, hypersaline and grassland flats, casuarinas, melaleuca, eucalypt and rainforest plants. This ongoing display can be viewed from May to September: Tuesday to Friday, 9am-4pmSaturday and Sunday, 9am-12pm.About the Community Art Wall: Located in the Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre, the Community Art Wall is a small, ongoing display which aims to celebrate and promote environmental awareness through art by featuring work from local artists and community groups that reflect environmental themes such as sustainability, biodiversity and connection to nature. If you are interested in displaying your art on the Community Art Wall, please see opportunities for artists.

Outdoor Gallery: Frazer Campbell exhibition 'Portraiture in the Square' at Town Square, Fish Lane Arts Precinct
Wednesday, 5 August - Sunday, 11 October 2026

Outdoor Gallery: Frazer Campbell exhibition 'Portraiture in the Square' at Town Square, Fish Lane Arts Precinct

'Portrait in the Square' by Frazer Campbell is a pop-up exhibition presented in partnership between Brisbane City Council's Outdoor Gallery and Fish Lane Arts Precinct. It will be on display from 5 August to 11 October 2026.Frazer Campbell's portraiture, installed in the vitrines at Fish Lane's Town Square, offers a contemplative pause within one of Brisbane's busiest urban corridors. The works draw out the layered depth of individual lives in a fast-paced city environment. These original artworks act as quiet anchors, reflecting personal histories and the universal human experience and inviting passersby to recognise fragments of their own stories in another's gaze, gesture or posture.Technically, Frazer's practice sits at the intersection of close observation and expressive mark-making, using layered surfaces and tonal nuance to suggest the complexity of identity.Frazer Campbell is a Brisbane-based emerging artist known for his intense, emotionally charged portraits in oils and acrylics. Influenced by literature, film and music, his award-winning work explores identity and connection through colour, cinematic drama, and deep empathy, all shaped by his lived experience."I am intrigued by certain faces, especially expressions at the unhappier end of the emotional spectrum: existential angst, psychic dread." - Frazer CampbellFrazer Campbell is featured in Council's latest Outdoor Gallery exhibition, AMPLIFY ME!, a celebration of Brisbane artists with lived experience of disability that showcases their work in accessible outdoor spaces across the city. Grounded in inclusive arts practice, the exhibition encourages collaboration and barrier-free creativity, supporting lasting connections, inclusion and social change across Brisbane's cultural landscape.AMPLIFY ME! is curated by Nicole Crosswell and runs from 21 November 2025 to 25 October 2026.This program is part of Council's Outdoor Gallery, which transforms Brisbane's laneways, streets and car parks into imaginative spaces for everyone, showcasing art in light boxes, banners, vitrines and evening projections. This program is delivered in partnership with Fish Lane Arts Precinct.Image Credit: Photography by Joseph Rucklie.Location: The vitrines at Fish Lane's Town Square.
