Artist in Residence: Gerwyn Davies
Leading contemporary artist Gerwyn Davies presents a series of striking photographic portraits developed in collaboration with trans and gender-diverse young people from Open Doors Youth Service. Each vivid image features a handcrafted sculptural costume, allowing the wearer to represent themselves in spectacular ways while simultaneously retaining their anonymity. Together, the works celebrate self-expression, resilience, and the power of chosen visibility. MoB’s Artist in Residence program is supported by Tim Fairfax AC. Presented by Museum of Brisbane in partnership with MELT Festival, Brisbane Powerhouse. RQAS Workshop Festival
RQAS Workshop Festival is back by popular demand, with this year offering a wide range of workshops covering oils, pastels, acrylics, drawing and more throughout the entire month of March. The workshops will be available for children, teenagers and adults of all skill levels. The Festival will also run in conjunction with the biennial Young Artist Award, and to start things off, RQAS will be holding an Open Day at Petrie Terrace Gallery on Saturday 7 March. Bush Kindy - World Wildlife Day
Join us for a special Bush Kindy session in celebration of World Wildlife Day! Bush Kindy is designed for children aged 3–5 years, accompanied by their parents. Each session runs for up to 45 minutes and explores a different nature-based theme each week. In honour of World Wildlife Day, we’ll be highlighting the wonders of local wildlife and the importance of protecting our natural habitats. This activity is for the general public. If you are a daycare or vacation group interested in attending a similar activity please send us an email. Requirements Arrive minimum 10 minutes early to check in with staff at the centre. All children must be accompanied and directly supervised by an adult. Wear a hat, sun-safe clothing, fully enclosed walking shoes (no thongs or open shoes please), sunscreen, and bring insect repellent. Suitable old clothes recommended for messy play. Water and a snack if required, as there are no food outlets on site. Note: Events are subject to weather and environmental conditions and may be cancelled on the day.
Micro Museum
What will you collect? Welcome to Micro Museum – a space for telling stories through objects. You are invited to explore the fascinating world of collecting, and uncover the memories that objects hold. Inspired by major exhibition Precious in this space you are the curator. You can select, sort and arrange a wide array of items, many of which are second-hand or vintage. Each object holds memories, and now you can create your own. RQAS Young Artist Award
Petrie Terrace Gallery is showcasing the artwork of Queensland's emerging fine artists throughout the entire month of March with the Young Artist Award Exhibition. For this exhibition, young artists will submit 2D works on a subject of their choice, focusing on paintings and drawings of a subject observed from life. This includes landscapes, portraits, still lives and their depictions of the world around them. There will be an open day on Saturday 7 March from 2-3:30pm to celebrate the official opening of the RQAS Young Artist Award Exhibition. MacArthur Museum - New exhibition on Prisoners of War
In a new exhibit on Australian Prisoners of War in the Pacific, MacArthur Museum highlights the horrific experience of Australians as prisoners of the Japanese through a new physical and digital display. The display examines the conditions the Prisoners of War worked under, the ingenuity of the medical officers and the brutality of their captors. Come and visit the MacArthur Museum to learn about the role of Brisbane in World War 2, the South West Pacific Area Campaign and General Douglas MacArthur.
