RQAS Fellows Exhibition
Each year, members of the RQAS branches across Queensland nominate their peers to receive fellowship. Our Fellows are those artists who have reached a high standard of artistic practice, and have contributed to the broader Arts community as well as supporting the aims of the RQAS. For this open themed exhibition, we celebrate the current and past Fellows of the Royal Queensland Art Society with an exhibition that showcases their talent and legacy. We will also be holding a range of events at Petrie Terrace Gallery during the exhibition including an opening event, two artist talks and a Mentors Day. Let the Arts Flourish! Artist in Residence: Renee Kire
Step inside an exciting new residency project that invites you to experience art in unexpected ways. Artist in Residence Renee Kire takes over Museum of Brisbane’s entryway, transforming these spaces with a vibrant and dynamic mix of striking vinyl graphics and sculptural timber elements. These features create an immersive pathway that stretches across walls and ceilings, guiding you into the heart of the Museum. Drawing inspiration from Minimalism while reinterpreting the movement through a contemporary feminist lens, Kire brings fresh attention to the often-overlooked contributions of women in the field. Bright, colourful and welcoming for all visitors, the artwork is both joyful and thought-provoking. Responding directly to the architecture of the Museum, City Hall and the Brisbane cityscape, Kire’s design reveals unexpected connections between the built environment and abstract form. Warrajamba
Follow the mermaid in the bay. Dive into story, culture and hands-on creativity with our latest Artist in Residence, Quandamooka artist Delvene Cockatoo-Collins. Journey alongside Delvene to the shores of Minjerribah and discover the ancestral story of Warrajamba, the mermaid, a living cultural legacy that Delvene continues to explore as she searches for its lost ending. Get hands-on and create your own mermaid or dugong using artist-designed stamps, connecting with the stories of Warrajamba and Yungong, the dugong. Discover Delvene’s powerful sculptural work made from materials gathered from Country - yungair/yungaire (freshwater reed), talwalpin (beach hibiscus cotton tree), and quampie shell. Come and be immersed in a space that celebrates care for land, sea and story. MoB’s Artist in Residence program is supported by Tim Fairfax AC. Gathering: Joe Geia Band
Gathering presents Joe Geia Band. Geia is a renowned singer/songwriter, guitarist, didgeridoo player and influential figure in the development of contemporary Indigenous music. He writes music of bravery and beauty, telling of Aboriginal life in Australia, of the quest for justice and belonging, of history, family and love. “I want to promote change and understanding, melodically and harmoniously,” he says, “while still sharing the little known aspects of Aboriginal history”. As the writer of renowned songs such as Yil Lull and Uncle Willie he remains an active recording and performing artist sharing his Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture through music. Join us at the mainstage of Queen Street Mall for a special performance by the Joe Geia Band on Wednesday 8 July between 12 noon and 1pm. This Gathering event is produced by Cre8tive Nations.
The Great Beach Adventure
A joyful, imagination-powered escapade for children aged 3–10 and their grown-ups. When two best friends decide it’s beach day, their living room transforms into a world of waves, pirates, sea creatures, and sun-soaked silliness. The Great Beach Adventure is a story about imagination. Jacob has never been to the beach - Courtney has. This interactive, high-energy performance celebrates how kids play, problem-solve, and imagine their way through big adventures using everyday things. With physical comedy, playful surprises, and heartwarming friendship, it’s the perfect Fringe treat that will have the whole family ready for their very own Great Beach Adventure! Warm up with a mini tour of Precious with Izzy to soak up all the punk-inspired posters and badges, then let your hands go loose in the studio! Celebrating Country and Culture through the bold designs of Magpie Goose. Museum of Brisbane is excited to collaborate with Magpie Goose, a proudly Aboriginal owned and led fashion and social enterprise, to celebrate extraordinary First Nations cultural stories and designs. This exclusive to Brisbane exhibition, developed in close collaboration with Magpie Goose owners Amanda Hayman (Wakka Wakka and Kalkadoon) and Troy Casey (Kamilaroi), offers a deep dive into the work of some of the region’s most talented First Nations artists and designers. Using clothing as a canvas for storytelling, this exciting collaboration will connect audiences with the rich and diverse cultural expressions of First Nations communities in Queensland and beyond. Queensland artist Martin Edge brings his playful, joy‑filled world to the Fairfax Gallery for his Artist in Residence project. Known for his vibrant scenes inspired by everyday life, from seaside moments and city adventures to his much‑loved CityCat journeys, Edge blends memory and imagination into colourful, whimsical compositions. Across three weeks, Edge will create a large‑scale mural directly onto the gallery walls, offering visitors a rare opportunity to watch his process in action and chat with him as the work evolves. Featuring bright colours, bold geometric forms and iconic Brisbane landmarks, the finished artwork will present two lively scenes of Brisbane City in Edge’s distinctive style. Dating Disasters - Wynnum Fringe
Dating Disasters is about the many misgivings of momentous meetings, raunchy rendezvous and cataclysmic love affairs that happen when we attempt to date. It is a verbatim cabaret, that features anonymous stories gathered from our audience and weaved with like-a-version music and tales from my own experiences of the dating world. Dating is something that all adults typically endure and usually have an experience worth forgetting – or is it?! Join Bea as she proves that she isn’t a psychotic stalker, but simply an emotional being who needs her feelings requited. Will she find the meaning of healthy relationships and also true love? Visible Ink's art and craft sessions
Whether you're wanting a chance to work on your project in a relaxed, collaborative space or learn a new skill, Visible Ink's art and craft sessions provide an opportunity for young people to hang out, create, and meet other young artists and crafters. Visible Ink provides a range of art and craft supplies to support a variety of interests and our facilitator can help you with whatever it is you're working on. If you dont know where to start, we can help you to start with activities like sewing, quilting, crochet, knitting and upcycling. Join us on Friday afternoons 4pm to 6pm to chill and create!
The Descent of Orpheus
His lover lost and a journey into darkness. Orpheus risks everything for Eurydice - what would you risk for love? A story that is both familiar, and somehow made new. We invite you to immerse yourself in the cool waters of the river Styx, and descend into the Underworld to answer the ultimate question: How far will you go for love? Led by some of the foremost creative leaders of Baroque music and movement, Springboard Opera presents the Queensland premiere of The Descent of Orpheus by Charpentier. Here you’ll find a rich tapestry of period dance set next to storytelling for a modern audience, an orchestra comprised of authentic period instruments interpreted with a modern lens of sensitivity. Artist in Residence: Renee Kire
Step inside an exciting new residency project that invites you to experience art in unexpected ways. Artist in Residence Renee Kire takes over Museum of Brisbane’s entryway, transforming these spaces with a vibrant and dynamic mix of striking vinyl graphics and sculptural timber elements. These features create an immersive pathway that stretches across walls and ceilings, guiding you into the heart of the Museum. Drawing inspiration from Minimalism while reinterpreting the movement through a contemporary feminist lens, Kire brings fresh attention to the often-overlooked contributions of women in the field. Bright, colourful and welcoming for all visitors, the artwork is both joyful and thought-provoking. Responding directly to the architecture of the Museum, City Hall and the Brisbane cityscape, Kire’s design reveals unexpected connections between the built environment and abstract form. Repetition, rhythm and thoughtful details invite you to slow down, look closely and discover new perspectives. MoB’s Artist in Residence program is supported by Tim Fairfax AC.
