Heritage Hands Festival: Sandgate

On Saturday, explore the free festival program, including artisan makers, the Heritage Makers Market, exhibitions and family-friendly activities, before concluding with PechaKucha: Heritage Hands - Made to Last, an evening of inspiring visual storytelling.
Cannon Hill community street tree planting
Join us for a free family-friendly tree planting event and help make Cannon Hill greener, cooler and more walkable. You will have the opportunity to plant trees in your local street and help grow our urban forest. Get to know your neighbours whilst beautifying your local area.New street trees are carefully chosen to suit the site and local area. Planting holes will be dug beforehand, and all tools will be supplied.This is a great opportunity for children and adults alike to learn about the trees being planted and the important role they play in creating cooler streets, supporting local wildlife and benefiting future generations.As a thank you for participating, enjoy a free sausage sizzle after planting and take home a free native plant.What to bring: For your comfort and safety, participants are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes, a hat, and sunscreen, and to bring a reusable water bottle.Streets to be planted include: Aster Street, Beauvardia Street, Blackwood Avenue, Camelia Street, Dahlia Street, Duke Street, Erica Street, Goolara Street, Imperial Avenue, Lang Street, Molloy Road, Montfort Street, Narela Street, Prince Street, Princess Street, Richmond Road and Stanton Street.Further details: Meet at Regent Park (corner of Wynnum Road and Rossiter Street), Cannon Hill. Join us from 9am for a welcome and briefing before planting begins. Planting opportunities are available on a first-come basis and will continue while trees remain, so we encourage you to arrive early to take part.

First 5 Forever children's storytime
Experience the magic of storytime with your child at the library. This interactive session includes stories, songs and mark making activities for young children. Ideal for children aged 2-5 years. No bookings are required, but places are limited. If the session becomes too full, we may need to close entry to ensure a safe and comfortable experience for everyone.First 5 Forever is an initiative of the Queensland Government, coordinated by State Library of Queensland and delivered in partnership with local government.

Bright, colourful and welcoming for all visitors, the artwork is both joyful and thought-provoking.Responding directly to the architecture of the Museum, City Hall and the Brisbane cityscape, Kire's design reveals unexpected connections between the built environment and abstract form. Dive into story, culture and hands-on creativity with our latest Artist in Residence, Quandamooka artist Delvene Cockatoo-Collins.Journey alongside Delvene to the shores of Minjerribah and discover the ancestral story of Warrajamba, the mermaid, a living cultural legacy that Delvene continues to explore as she searches for its lost ending.Get hands-on and create your own mermaid or dugong using artist-designed stamps, connecting with the stories of Warrajamba and Yungong, the dugong. Convict Brisbane Walking Tour
Explore Brisbane's colonial history on this guided tour through the city's convict past.Beginning at the historic Windmill on Wickham Terrace and winding down to the river at Queens Wharf, the tour traces Brisbane's transformation between 1823 and 1842 - from a remote penal outpost to an emerging free town. Hear stories of convicts and commandants, revealing how punishment, labour and authority shaped daily life. Along the way, our guides bring the settlement into focus, illuminating the social fabric and living conditions, as well as the central role of the Brisbane River in sustaining the colony.Woven throughout the tour are First Peoples' responses to British settlement, their enduring connection to Country, and the Frontier wars that directly followed this era. Together, these intersecting stories offer a deeper understanding of how Brisbane grew from its earliest foundations into a regional centre.Tour highlights include: The Windmill, The Brisbane Crest, The Petrie Tableau, Convict-built structures and surviving remnants, Miller Park and the Commissariat Stores, Queens Wharf and, the Brisbane River.This 90‑minute, 1.75km tour is designed to suit most fitness levels, however, please note it includes walking downhill along city streets and across uneven surfaces.
