Artist in Residence: Gerwyn Davies

Leading contemporary artist Gerwyn Davies presents a series of striking photographic portraits developed in collaboration with trans and gender-diverse young people from Open Doors Youth Service. Each vivid image features a handcrafted sculptural costume, allowing the wearer to represent themselves in spectacular ways while simultaneously retaining their anonymity. Together, the works celebrate self-expression, resilience, and the power of chosen visibility. MoB’s Artist in Residence program is supported by Tim Fairfax AC. Presented by Museum of Brisbane in partnership with MELT Festival, Brisbane Powerhouse.   Museum of Brisbane is Brisbane City Council’s leading history and art museum where you can experience our city’s vibrant culture.

What will you collect? Welcome to Micro Museum – a space for telling stories through objects. You are invited to explore the fascinating world of collecting, and uncover the memories that objects hold. Inspired by major exhibition Precious in this space you are the curator. You can select, sort and arrange a wide array of items, many of which are second-hand or vintage. Each object holds memories, and now you can create your own. Discover the hidden secrets of your heritage-listed City Hall building with a guided tour of Brisbane’s iconic Clock Tower. The Clock Tower Tour is a “must do” while in Brisbane! For many years, City Hall’s Clock Tower elevated the building to Brisbane’s tallest, offering visitors a magnificent 360 degree view of the city around them. Whilst the view has changed significantly over the last 90 years, the time-honoured tradition of “taking a trip up the tower” happily continues at Museum of Brisbane. The Clock Tower Tour includes a ride in one of Brisbane’s oldest working cage lifts, a look behind Australia’s largest analogue clock faces and time to explore the observation platform that shares a unique perspective of your city. Craig & Karl: Double Vision is a dynamic, playful exploration of one of Queensland's most internationally successful creative exports. Employing Craig & Karl’s signature visual language, defined by bold colour, graphic precision, and infectious joy, the exhibition explores the artists’ three-decade-long creative partnership, their influence on global public art and design trends, and the enduring impact of Griffith University’s Queensland College of Art & Design, where the artists first met almost 30 years ago. Brisbane City Council’s latest Outdoor Gallery exhibition AMPLIFY ME! is a celebration of local Brisbane artists with lived experience of disability, showcasing their artwork in accessible outdoor spaces across the city. Grounded in inclusive arts practice, the exhibition promotes collaboration, barrier-free creativity and lasting connections, while encouraging inclusion and social change in Brisbane’s cultural landscape. “The artists’ unique practices and creative voices deeply informed the curatorial framework of this exhibition, shaping every aspect with authenticity and vision. This approach moves beyond tradition, celebrating Brisbane’s rich artistic diversity and thoughtfully highlighting the importance of lived experience at the heart of the city’s cultural story.” AMPLIFY ME! is curated by Nicole Crosswell and will be open from 21 November 2025 to 25 October 2026.
