Nature journaling for adults
Join this regular nature journaling get-together at Downfall Creek Bushland Centre on the last Friday afternoon of each month (except public holidays). These informal sessions are a great opportunity to take some time out, relax, and connect creatively with nature. Requirements: Please bring your own basic sketch/art pad. All other materials supplied. Wear sun-safe clothing and secure, fully enclosed walking shoes. Bring water and a snack if required as there are no food outlets on site. Bring a lightweight outdoor chair if you'd like to use one. Please arrive 5 minutes early to check-in.Note: This activity will go ahead in light rain and can be delivered indoors if required. Events are subject to weather and environmental conditions and may be cancelled on the day.
Volunteer Bushcare Working Bee - Gertrude Petty Place Bushcare Group
Join other like-minded volunteers to help protect and restore Brisbane’s unique biodiversity through our Habitat Brisbane program. Whatever your skill level and motivation, joining your local Habitat Brisbane group is a great way to connect to nature and be active and healthy, all while meeting new people, developing new skills and making a difference to your local environment. With 160 groups across the city there’s bound to be one near you! Habitat Brisbane volunteers undertake a variety of activities including: managing environmental weeds revegetating with local native plants creating habitat for native wildlife citizen science projects.
Sherwood Arboretum Guided Walk
Sherwood Arboretum, established in 1925, is Brisbane’s only botanic garden dedicated exclusively to growing Australian native trees. The Arboretum holds scientific and cultural values with many of the original plantings undertaken by prominent citizens of Brisbane. The guided walk will be led by the Volunteer Guides of the Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha and the Friends of Sherwood Arboretum. Requirements: Please wear a hat, enclosed walking shoes, and be sure to bring a water bottle and sunscreen. Meeting point: Meet at the shelter adjacent to the main carpark off Jolimont Street, Sherwood. Age: Open to all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult. World Wetlands Day - Wings Across the Globe - Shorebird Adventure
Ever wondered about the amazing birds you see along the water’s edge? Join us for a fun, family-friendly session where curiosity takes flight! Through hands-on activities and creative play, we’ll explore the wonderful world of shorebirds – how they live, what makes them special, and why our wetlands are so important to them. Take part in an interactive activity that brings these remarkable birds to life. Afterwards, explore the centre’s interactive displays or take a walk around the wetlands to see if you can spot some real-life feathered friends! Important information before you register: Suitable for ages 7-12 years All adults and children attending require a ticket for this event Maximum of 5 people per booking Children must be accompanied by an adult throughout, with a ratio of 1 adult supervising up to a maximum of 4 children If you cannot attend, please cancel your booking online via Eventbrite.On the day of the event: Please arrive 10 minutes before the starting time to check in with environment centre staff.
