Agents of Discovery - Explore Karawatha Forest
Become a Nature Agent and connect with Karawatha Forest in a whole new way! Step into the forest and accept your mission! Drop in anytime between 9am and 4pm and Join Agent Tree Frog on a self-guided digital adventure through Karawatha Forest designed especially for families. Through interactive challenges and location-based play, you explorers will uncover hidden discoveries and learn about Brisbane's unique forest habitats along the way. To get started, simply download the free Agents of Discovery app on a mobile phone or iPad before you arrive. The app is available on Google Play and the Apple App Store. Requirements: Mission can be completed, at your own pace All children must be accompanied and directly supervised by an adult. Please wear a wide-brimmed hat, sun-safe clothing, fully enclosed walking shoes (no thongs or open shoes please), sunscreen, and bring insect repellent. Bring drinking water and a snack if required, as there are no food outlets on site.
Sherwood Arboretum guided walk
Sherwood Arboretum, established in 1925, is Brisbane’s only botanic garden dedicated exclusively to growing Australian native trees. The Arboretum holds scientific and cultural values with many of the original plantings undertaken by prominent citizens of Brisbane. The guided walk will be led by the Volunteer Guides of the Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha and the Friends of Sherwood Arboretum. Requirements: Wear a hat, enclosed walking shoes, and be sure to bring a water bottle and sunscreen. Meeting point: Meet at the shelter adjacent to the main carpark off Jolimont Street, Sherwood. Age: Open to all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Note: Walks may be subject to environmental conditions and guide capacity on the day.

Volunteer Bushcare Working Bee - McDowall Bushcare Group
Join other like-minded volunteers to help protect and restore Brisbane’s unique biodiversity through our Habitat Brisbane program. Whatever your skill level and motivation, joining your local Habitat Brisbane group is a great way to connect to nature and be active and healthy, all while meeting new people, developing new skills and making a difference to your local environment. With 160 groups across the city there’s bound to be one near you! Habitat Brisbane volunteers undertake a variety of activities including: managing environmental weeds revegetating with local native plants creating habitat for native wildlife citizen science projects. The McDowall Bushcare Group meet every Tuesday from 8.30-11.30am.
Junior Explorers: Bug Detectives (6 years+) (with iNaturalist)
Meet some of the Environment Centre’s resident insects and other mini-beasts at a fun bug show, then test out your detective skills on a short walk investigating bugs and their habitats. What will we find living nearby? Learn how you can help these bugs using citizen science app, iNaturalist. Join this one-of-a-kind school holiday activity to discover fascinating facts about bugs and other mini-beasts and find out why these amazing animals are nature’s superheroes! This activity is for the general public. If you are a daycare or vacation group interested in attending a similar activity, send an email. Bookings requirements: All adults and children require a ticket. A ratio of 1 adult per 4 children is required. Wild edibles walk
Join a guided walk to discover some of the useful native plants along the Tulla-yugaipa dhagun track at Boondall Wetlands. Go wild and discover edible Australian native plants at Boondall Wetlands reserve. Join environment centre staff on a short guided tour along the Tulla-yugaipa dhagun track (place of useful plants) showcasing some of the wild edible plants used by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and colonial peoples, as well as some other surprising uses. Please note collecting plants is not permitted in this protected conservation reserve. After the walk, join a short tasting session where you can try some foods prepared using native plants and find out more about some of the ‘bush food’ native plants suitable for backyards and balconies in Brisbane. Requirements: Please arrive 10 minutes early to check in with staff at the environment centre. Wear sun-safe clothing, fully enclosed shoes, sunscreen, and insect repellent. Connect with nature: Guided forest therapy
This small-group program offers a gentle and accessible way to connect with Brisbane’s natural areas. Led by a qualified Forest Therapy guide, the session includes a series of simple sensory and mindfulness-based activities, quiet walking, and opportunities for personal reflection. You’ll be invited to engage with the natural environment at your own pace - there is no bushwalking experience or fitness level required. Forest Therapy has been shown to support wellbeing, reduce stress and strengthen our connection to nature and community. The session concludes with a shared tea ceremony and time for conversation. Twilight walk - Rocks Track
Experience one of Brisbane’s treasured bushland reserves at the magical twilight hour. Discover what makes this precious area special and learn more about our magnificent forest and its plants and animals as we explore the 2.5km Rocks Track. Don’t miss this fun family-friendly opportunity for a guided bushwalk with a difference. Moderate fitness required, this track has some climbs and steps. This activity is for the general public. If you are a daycare or vacation group interested in attending a similar activity, please email us at KFDC@brisbane.qld.gov.au. Requirements: Arrive 15 minutes early to check in. Wear secure, fully enclosed, comfortable walking shoes. Bring a small hand-held torch (no headlamps), water, and insect repellent. Lightweight long pants and long sleeves recommended. Bird safari (10-12 years)
Go wild on a guided walk introducing children to birdwatching. Young naturalists will learn how to use binoculars, listen and look for birds, build identification and observation skills, complete some fun challenges, and discover how recording observations can contribute to bird conservation.
