Bush Kindy: Wild Play

Bush Kindy: Wild Play

Bush Kindy is for children aged 3-5 years, alongside their parents and carers. Be immersed in the natural surroundings of the reserve as children build nature confidence and respect for the environment through bushwalks, exploration, story-time, art 'n' craft and much more. Bush Kindy sessions can go for roughly 45 minutes and will go ahead in light rain. Themes and activities vary each week. This activity is for the general public. If you are a daycare or vacation group interested in attending a similar activity, send an email. Booking requirements: Maximum 5 tickets as places are limited.   A ratio of 1 adult per 4 children is required.   All adults and children (including infants) must have a ticket.   Please cancel via Eventbrite if you cannot attend.   As this event is popular and places limited, late arrival tickets will be forfeited to make way for available attendees.  Requirements: Arrive minimum 10 minutes early to check in with staff at the centre. All children must be accompanied and directly supervised by an adult. Wear a hat, sun-safe clothing, fully enclosed walking shoes (no thongs or open shoes please), sunscreen, and bring insect repellent. Suitable old clothes recommended for messy play. Water and a snack if required, as there are no food outlets on site. Note: All outdoor events are subject to weather and environmental conditions and may be cancelled on the day.

Join this regular nature journaling get-together at Downfall Creek Bushland Centre on the last Friday afternoon of each month (except public holidays). These informal sessions are a great opportunity to take some time out, relax, and connect creatively with nature. Requirements: Bring your own basic sketch/art pad. All other materials supplied. Wear sun-safe clothing and secure, fully enclosed walking shoes. Bring water and a snack if required as there are no food outlets on site. Bring a lightweight outdoor chair if you'd like to use one. Arrive 5 minutes early to check-in. Note: This activity will go ahead in light rain and can be delivered indoors if required. Meet some of the Environment Centre’s resident insects and other mini-beasts at a fun bug show, then test out your detective skills on a short walk investigating bugs and their habitats. What will we find living nearby? Learn how you can help these bugs using citizen science app, iNaturalist. Join this one-of-a-kind school holiday activity to discover fascinating facts about bugs and other mini-beasts and find out why these amazing animals are nature’s superheroes! This activity is for the general public. If you are a daycare or vacation group interested in attending a similar activity, send an email. Bookings requirements: All adults and children require a ticket. A ratio of 1 adult per 4 children is required. Join a fun guided walk to visit some of our resident bats and learn some amazing facts about these winged wildlife heroes. These quiet (and not-so-quiet) achievers are crucial to the health of forests, making all bats ecological powerhouses! There will be giveaway take-home crafts for children and some tips on easy ways we all can help bats with their struggle to survive. Less than 1 km on easy walking paths. After the activity, visit the environment centre and explore the beautiful natural surroundings of the bushland reserve.
