Celebrating Country and Culture through the bold designs of Magpie Goose. Museum of Brisbane is excited to collaborate with Magpie Goose, a proudly Aboriginal owned and led fashion and social enterprise, to celebrate extraordinary First Nations cultural stories and designs. This exclusive to Brisbane exhibition, developed in close collaboration with Magpie Goose owners Amanda Hayman (Wakka Wakka and Kalkadoon) and Troy Casey (Kamilaroi), offers a deep dive into the work of some of the region’s most talented First Nations artists and designers. Using clothing as a canvas for storytelling, this exciting collaboration will connect audiences with the rich and diverse cultural expressions of First Nations communities in Queensland and beyond. Artist in Residence: Gerwyn Davies
Leading contemporary artist Gerwyn Davies presents a series of striking photographic portraits developed in collaboration with trans and gender-diverse young people from Open Doors Youth Service. Each vivid image features a handcrafted sculptural costume, allowing the wearer to represent themselves in spectacular ways while simultaneously retaining their anonymity. Together, the works celebrate self-expression, resilience, and the power of chosen visibility. MoB’s Artist in Residence program is supported by Tim Fairfax AC. Presented by Museum of Brisbane in partnership with MELT Festival, Brisbane Powerhouse. Petrie Terrace Gallery is showcasing the artwork of Queensland's emerging fine artists throughout the entire month of March with the Young Artist Award Exhibition. For this exhibition, young artists will submit 2D works on a subject of their choice, focusing on paintings and drawings of a subject observed from life. This includes landscapes, portraits, still lives and their depictions of the world around them. There will be an open day on Saturday 7 March from 2-3:30pm to celebrate the official opening of the RQAS Young Artist Award Exhibition. MacArthur Museum - New exhibition on Prisoners of War
In a new exhibit on Australian Prisoners of War in the Pacific, MacArthur Museum highlights the horrific experience of Australians as prisoners of the Japanese through a new physical and digital display. The display examines the conditions the Prisoners of War worked under, the ingenuity of the medical officers and the brutality of their captors. Come and visit the MacArthur Museum to learn about the role of Brisbane in World War 2, the South West Pacific Area Campaign and General Douglas MacArthur. Brisbane Annual Palm and Cycad Show
Calling all Palm and Cycad enthusiasts! This year's show is on the second weekend of March at the Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens Auditorium. The gardens have lots of free parking. The show is your best way to purchase native or exotic palms and cycads, with a huge selection of stock to choose from. We will also be displaying mature plants, so that you can see what your purchases will look like in the future. We have a number of specialist books for sale at the show and all visitors will be able to ask our expert growers and members about the suitability of specific palms and cycads for their garden. Join us on this weekend as it will be a great place for people to indulge their gardening passion.
Pastel Skyscapes Workshop with David Wells
As a part of the RQAS Workshop Festival, join David Wells, a professional artist and art tutor, to learn more about using soft pastels and how to create your own skyscape. This workshop focuses on capturing the colour and feel of an Australian afternoon Storm, including clouds, suburb landscape and foliage. Students will employ blending, layering and scumbling techniques to create individual artworks and explore personal expression, within a carefully structured class. Suitable for attendees of all experience levels, and for both teenagers and adults. For further information on the workshop and materials list, please visit Humanitix.
